0-3

Just after Ella turned one we taught her how to raise her arms in the touchdown sign and to say "Go Irish!". When she was two she learned how to tuck the ball under her arm and run, tackle her dad, and say "touchdown" and "Go Notre Dame!" Here it is, football season again, and every time she trips or falls down Ella says "tackled!" When she drops something she says, "fumble!" A friend taught her to say "Ah, nuts!" when someone doesn't catch something. We've been hearing a lot of that around the house on Saturdays.

Addison's hasn't started talking yet, but she's quickly learning the meaning of the words "interception" and "turnover" and the signs for "intentional grounding," "holding," and "loss of down." Baby's first words might be along the lines of "punt" or "sacked." She definitely knows the meaning of "Get Mommy another beer. Oh, God, they're going for it--better make that three."

We're taking the girls up to Notre Dame in October. I'm going to dress the girls in their jerseysand put them on the bench in the Demetrius Jones' vacant seat. They might not score any points, but I bet they'll be able to at least hold onto the ball.

Go Irish! Still. Always.

  2. Terrible, just terrible. It is painful to think that it is just the beginning of the season...

  3. I did want to say that it is always sad to not have your sports team stand up to your expectations, but to have your benched quarterback leave the program and enroll at Northern Illinois in what he thinks is a career advancement, is a real slap in the face.
I look forward to meeting you and the girls in October. I already bought a ND ball cap to complete my outfit.
